Design, AI and the Adaptation of a Vulnerable Territory: A Prospective View in the Saint-Nazaire Region
As part of Nantes Digital Week, the City Design Lab of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique invites you to the presentation of the project “Design, AI and the Adaptation of a Vulnerable Territory: A Prospective View in the Saint-Nazaire Region.”
In a context of environmental change and the necessary adaptation to the potential effects of climate warming, the intervention area of the Saint-Nazaire regional urban planning agency—and more specifically the northern bank of the Loire estuary—is the subject of a forward-looking study conducted by the Saint-Nazaire Urban Planning Agency (ADDRN), the City Design Lab of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, and the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Nantes.
This project invites participants to immerse themselves in a territory shaped by the presence of water and adapting to recurrent floods and submersions in the 2050s. Industrial and port activity, the mobility of flows, and urban dynamics in these vulnerable contexts are explored through this exhibition, which offers a questioning and prospective view of the future and the adaptive capacity of territories. This adaptive and inspiring vision fosters a sensitive and forward-looking reading of the territory through short audiovisual formats and a narrative and visual design approach.
The overall production aims to facilitate mediation and debate with participants. It also makes it possible to showcase and discuss the methodology and artificial intelligence tools mobilized by designers and architects to share scenarios for the transformation of cities and territories with inhabitants and users.
