Evaluation by Design
François Jégou and Christophe Gouache, designers, are experts in public policy design issues and have been deploying public policy design evaluation systems for several years.
Recently one of their evaluation missions for the European Metropolis of Lille was published What if we consumed less water?
François Jégou also co-wrote an article in Sciences du Design "The design of public action: towards a hybridization between design culture and evaluation culture" (2019) with Thomas Delahais of Quadrant Conseil and Stéphane Vincent, of the 27th region.
Here, the aim is to demonstrate that the evaluation of design in public action should not be limited to its results, but include the analysis of the processes and profound transformations that it induces.
Design, through its iterative approach and its complexity, requires an appropriate evaluation.
Realistic evaluation, by focusing on the mechanisms of change and their contexts, proves relevant. Hybridization between designers and evaluators is crucial. Designers must take ownership of the evaluation and collaborate with evaluators for a holistic understanding of design impact.
