Monday October 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the school invites you to a nighttime exhibition followed by a moving debate, to discover the work of City Design Lab students, carried out as part of the 5 years of the Dark Design seminar, supervised by Nicolas Houel and Maxime Poirier from the Observatoire de la nuit.

5 challenges addressed by designers to those involved in urban night life

Since 2019, the City Design Lab at L’École de design Nantes Atlantique has taken on a unique challenge in France: imagining the nighttime experiences of tomorrow’s populations.

Each year, around twenty students explore the perspectives of future nights, facing often contradictory environmental, technological and societal issues.

Through philosophical, urban planning and technological explorations, they dissect our nocturnal activities and deconstruct preconceived ideas to imagine the night of tomorrow, accessible to all.

The event is structured around a nighttime exhibition of student work, retracing the 5 years of the Dark Design seminar, supervised by Nicolas Houel and Maxime Poirier from the Observatoire de la nuit. This exhibition will be followed by a moving debate, led by lighting experts, companies, students and researchers:

  • Christophe Canadell, lighting designer and general manager at Ikomē
  • Jérôme Charbonneau, Business Developer for Territorial Projects at Citeos
  • Filipe Ferreira, associate commercial director at Lumenscia
  • Dany Joly, head of public lighting service at Nantes Métropole
  • Marine Resson, project manager for City at Night in Nantes

Program

  • 5:30 p.m.: welcome and introduction to the theme and its issues
  • 6:30 p.m.: moving debate around the exhibition followed by a time for discussion
