Sustainable Design Focus - One Health
Focus on Sustainable Design is a conference program designed to enrich our School's culture in the area of sustainable design. It invites renowned scientists, eco-explorers, experts, designers, and architects to share their experiences, visions, and work on the subject.
For this first semester, we are pleased to present four conferences that will highlight innovative and inspiring approaches on biomimicry, health, food, the circular economy, and low tech.
Pierre Weill
One health
Pierre Weill, an agricultural engineer with a doctorate in biology and health, highlights the interconnection between the health of soil, animals, and humans. His research shows that the bacteria present in healthy soil are, for the most part, similar to those found in our gut microbiota. We are therefore intimately connected to all living things, and their management directly influences our health.
His work led him to the concept of "One Health," demonstrating that life in soil contributes to animal health and, consequently, contributes to our well-being.
Pierre Weill has also conducted studies on the importance of omega-3s in the food chain. He demonstrates that eating well begins with environmentally friendly crop choices and paying particular attention to livestock farming, in order to produce quality food that is beneficial to health.
He created a label defining a sustainable agricultural method, initially rejected by the agri-food sector but now recognized and supported by the Ministries of Agriculture, Health, and the Environment.
Pierre Weill will explain how design must integrate the "One Health" approach to benefit the environment and all living things.
