Conference "The value of creativity in the age of generative AI"
With Laurent LESCOP, professor at l'École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Nantes
In the age of generative AI, design professions are undergoing profound change. Where drawing, modelling and rendering were once core skills, machines can now produce a profusion of images and shapes in a matter of seconds. Does this spell the end of these skills? Rather, it is a shift: architects and designers are no longer just creators, but curators and scriptwriters, organising and critiquing possibilities. AI standardises, but it also opens up new avenues for asserting uniqueness. Some professions are disappearing (draftsmen, perspective artists), while others are emerging (orchestrators, data analysts). Value is shifting from ‘doing’ to ‘interpreting’, from time spent to the relevance of choices. More than a substitution, it is a redistribution of skills, where responsibility, cultural awareness and ethics are becoming the true hallmarks of the profession.
